About Us

The Northern Illinois Chapter (NIC) of the American Society of Home Inspectors—commonly known as NIC ASHI—is proud to be one of the largest and most active chapters within the ASHI network. Our mission is simple but essential: to elevate the home inspection profession by strengthening technical expertise, promoting ethical business practices, and upholding the highest standards of professionalism in the industry. Whether you’re a seasoned inspector or just entering the field, NIC ASHI serves as a hub for growth, connection, and continued excellence.

At the heart of our chapter is a commitment to education. We gather on the second Wednesday of each month for engaging, informative meetings designed to both expand and reinforce a home inspector’s knowledge base. These sessions feature a mix of industry experts, seasoned inspectors, and specialized instructors covering everything from structural systems and emerging technologies to business development and regulatory updates. Many of our meetings include state-approved continuing education (CE) courses, helping members conveniently earn the credits required to maintain their Illinois licenses while staying ahead of industry trends.

Beyond the classroom, NIC ASHI is deeply invested in mentorship and real-world learning. Our mentor programs pair newer inspectors with experienced professionals who provide practical guidance, insights, and support. Through ride-along inspections, members gain firsthand exposure to real inspection scenarios, building confidence and competence in ways that go far beyond textbooks or presentations. This hands-on approach helps ensure that every member has access to the tools and experience needed to succeed.

Our meetings also foster strong relationships between inspectors and industry partners. Each gathering offers affiliates the opportunity to introduce products and services that support both the operational (“back end”) and client-facing (“front end”) aspects of a home inspection business. From cutting-edge tools and software to marketing solutions and risk management resources, these connections help our members run more efficient, successful businesses.
